Carom Billiards is played on a table without pockets. The game is played with three balls, one red object ball and two white cue balls. Player one’s cue ball is marked with a blue star. Player two’s cue ball is marked with a red star. The other player’s cue ball is an object ball when it is your turn.
1. OBJECT OF THE GAME: Score points by striking both the red ball and the other player’s cue ball with your own cue ball.
2. SCORING: If you strike both object balls with your cue ball, and at least one ball strikes a rail (see “Foul Defined:” below), you score one point. The first player to reach 30 points wins.
3. LEGAL BREAK: Your cue ball must strike the red object ball first.
4. LEGAL SHOT: In American Carom, the cue ball does not need to strike a rail before striking the second ball, and you may strike the object balls in any order (except on the break--see Legal Break, above). To avoid a foul, at least one of the balls on the table must strike a rail as a result of your shot.
5. CONTINUING PLAY: You may continue after each point scored.
6. FOUL PENALTIES: Fouls result in the loss of one point. If you strike both object balls yet still commit a foul (no ball strikes a rail), that point does not count, and one point is subtracted from your total. Play passes to the other player.
